RFID IN HEALTHCARE HOSTS WIRELESS in HEALTH CARE EVENT FEATURE SPEAKERS from SLOAN-KETTERING, FDA, DOD/OSD/TMA and WORKSHOP BREAKOUTS

(FALLS CHURCH, Va.)– March 3, 2009 –RFID in Healthcare Consortium (www.rfidinhealthcare.org <http://www.rfidinhealthcare.org/> ), a unit of the non-profit RFID Educational Foundation, Inc., is hosting a roll-up-your-sleeves workshop and symposium on wireless technology in healthcare delivery. Challenges and Rewards Symposium and Workshop on Wireless Technologies in Health Care is a one-day event Tuesday, March 10, Washington (D.C.) Convention Center. The event is co-located with FOSE. www.fose.com

Emceed by Dr. Elliot B. Sloane, professor, Villanova University (Philadelphia), presenters who are from both the government and civilian sectors have many years working with wireless technologies in some of the most challenging and unique environments, where patient safety and security are paramount. The Food and Drug Administration’s Deputy Director of CDRH Brian Beard and Network Lead, Cardiothoracic and Peripheral Vascular Devices, Ann Ferriter, will talk about the past, present, and future of FDA’s role in wireless technology and devices. Speakers representing the Department of Defense will present several case studies.

Memorial Sloan-Kettering’s Paul Frisch and Kaiser Permanente’s Tom Judd will speak on “Inpatient & Home Heatlhcare.” Dr. Sloane will explain the Rosetta Project, the industry’s work on medical device interoperability. Paul Waegemann of mHealth Initiatives introduces a mobile phone functions in health care.

The combined symposium/workshop continues the work begun with industry-government workshop “What is needed for safe, secure and reliable deployment?” In this third workshop, attendees are planning next steps and policy implications of wireless in healthcare delivery. Topics to be covered: Inpatient Wireless Applications, Wireless in the Doctor’s Office; Medical Grade Wireless; RFID in Health Care, Framework for Hospital CIOs; Verification, Validation, Simulation; and EMI Issues in Health Care.

Visible Asset’s Peter Abell will explain the new IEEE 1902.1standard, known as RuBee , and its impact on health care delivery. Jeff Johnson of NewAge Industries presents on what wireless interoperability issues his company has addressed with its clients.

Complete transparency among vendors, providers, government regulators and policy makers in order for the convergence of technology needed to reach a favorable, steady cost-to-benefit ratio.
